I am allergic to other hair coloring brands; can I use Palette by Nature™ hair color?

Many people who are allergic to other brands can safely use Palette by Nature PPD/PTD Free All Natural Hair Color for women and men. We recommend that you always perform an allergy patch test before using any hair color. Hair color may cause an allergic or skin reaction in some individuals. For this reason, our packaging and Hair Color Application Guide, included with the hair color, explain to customers how to perform a skin allergy test 48 hours before each use. If a skin test produces any reaction, the product should not be applied to the hair or scalp. Please also note that a skin test is a safety precaution and cannot guarantee that an individual will not experience a reaction.

What is the difference between permanent, semi-permanent and demi-permanent hair colorants?

The basic difference is durability, i.e., resistance of the hair dye to multiple shampooing and environmental conditions. Semi-permanent colorants last typically for a few days and up to 5 shampoos. Demi-permanent colorants last anywhere from 10 to 15 days and up to 15 shampoos. Permanent colorants should last at least three weeks and up to 20 shampoos. It is a common mistake to assume that a permanent dye must be an oxidative dye. An oxidative dye must have a developer that contains Hydrogen Peroxide. However, non-oxidative dyes (i.e., dyes without a developer) that are typically called semi-permanent can also impart a permanent color.

What is Paraphenylenediamine (PPD)?

Paraphenylenediamine (PPD) is a chemical substance that is widely used in permanent hair dyes. The base PPD is colorless and requires oxygen for it to become a dye. Darker shades of hair dyes contain higher concentrations of PPD than lighter shades. Its use is controversial because of its high toxicity and an allergy may arise in anyone exposed to PPD. In 2006, PPD was declared the Contact Allergen of the Year by the American Contact Dermatitis Society (ACDS). Palette by Nature™ line of all natural hair coloring products is completely PPD and PTD free.

Why can Ammonia be bad for my hair?

In addition to having a strong, unpleasant odor, Ammonia or Ammonium Hydroxide can generally irritate your skin during acute exposure. Ammonia is used with oxidative (permanent) dyes to open up the hair cuticle and to allow PPD-based dye to penetrate into the hair shaft. Significant hair damage can occur at high enough concentration. Palette by Nature™ line of all natural hair coloring products is completely ammonia-free.

What are Parabens?

Parabens are a class of chemicals widely used as preservatives in cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries. Parabens are effective preservatives in many types of formulas.
Several peer-reviewed studies have reported results that indirectly support a correlation between the presence of parabens and the occurrence of breast cancer. High levels of parabens have been detected in breast tumors. Palette by Nature™ PPD/PTD Free All Natural hair coloring products are completely paraben-free.

Do Palette by Nature™ PPD/PTD Free All Natural hair colors contain Peroxide?
